Missing Persons Commission: Search for remains to resume tomorrow at Golo Brdo landfill

The Serbian Government Commission on Missing Persons announced that a search would resume tomorrow at three identified micro-locations at the Golo Brdo landfill in the village of Kozlje near Novi Pazar to verify information and locate the remains of persons reported missing in connection with the conflict in Kosovo.

According to the Commission’s statement, the location has been the subject of activities by the competent Serbian state authorities over the past two years, pursuant to an order issued by the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, in order to verify information indicating that the remains of missing persons may be located there.

“In addition to the competent Serbian state authorities, EULEX experts, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as representatives of the Pristina delegation to the Working Group on Missing Persons in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, will be present at the site as observers,” the statement said.

The Commission noted that activities at the site would continue until all necessary work had been completed, in accordance with the established schedule and the conditions required for the search to be conducted safely and without obstruction.

“The continuation of activities at the Golo Brdo landfill site in Kozlje is of particular importance to the families of missing persons, who have been waiting for years for answers about the fate of their loved ones and are seeking to find and provide a dignified burial for their remains. At the same time, the resumption of the search clearly confirms the commitment of the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia to verify every relevant piece of information and undertake all necessary activities aimed at locating missing persons and determining their fate,” the Commission on Missing Persons stated.
