Mother of abducted Alon Ohel: We, as mothers, should unite to bring our children home
Idit Ohel, the mother of Alon Ohel, an Israeli-Serbian citizen abducted in a Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, called on all mothers today to unite in their appeals and do everything they could for their children and all hostages captured on October 7th to be freed.
In a video posted on the momtoo.net website, symbolically named as a part of a global campaign where all mothers are urged to advocate for the release of hostages, Idit Ohel shared what happened to her son, who was abducted 50 days ago.
"I am Idit Ohel. Alon's mother, and also a mom. The last time I heard from my son was at eight in the morning when he sent a message saying he was in a bomb shelter and that he was okay. That's when Hamas entered and kidnapped my son, along with two other guys. They threw them into a truck and drove away", Idit Ohel said.
As she tearfully expressed, she simply wanted others to put themselves in her shoes – in a situation where her child was in a very dangerous place, facing great peril, and where she, as a mother, could not do anything about it.
"We mothers are here, from the moment we gave birth to them, and our goal, our life goal, is to protect our children. We need you, all mothers, to unite, to bring our children, our loved ones, home together", Idit Ohel conveyed in a video with Serbian subtitles.
The website and hashtag #momtoo represent an international movement of mothers united against terrorism and extremism and the risks they pose to children. The movement calls for the immediate release of all hostages captured in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th.
"At this very moment, hundreds of mothers and children are in the clutches of evil. No mother should imagine that her baby is held hostage in a dark underground tunnel, even for a minute, let alone weeks or months. As mothers, we have a sacred responsibility to care for and protect the lives of all children. We come from different backgrounds and have our unique stories, but today we must come together to fight against the global tribe of death that puts all our children in danger – extremist terrorist groups such as Hamas, IRGC, Hezbollah, Boko Haram, ISIS, Al Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, Islamic Jihad, and others. The events of October 7th were a turning point for many of us... So, we come together. The tribe of mothers must stand united against evil... We must unite to spread light. Join us in the call for life, for the liberation of all children. Join us in the call for the liberation of all mothers. Because you are a mother too", is the message of this movement.
