Municipal inspection tried to remove “I Love Mitrovica” sign, police detained Radojevic and Zaporozac
The municipal inspection of North Mitrovica went out today around 10 a.m. to the location where the “I Love Mitrovica” sign is installed with the intention of removing it, and the Kosovo Police detained the Mayor of North Mitrovica Milan Radojevic and the President of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica Ivan Zaporozac.
In front of the station in North Mitrovica where Zaporozac and Radojevic were taken, members of the Serb List gathered.
Lawyer Predrag Miljkovic also arrived at the station and will represent the detainees.
The detention and intervention by the Kosovo Police occurred when Mayor Radojevic attempted to spray over a green heart with red paint, and police then pushed the Mayor of North Mitrovica.
Radojevic told Kosovo Online journalist that he “expects anything” at the station.
“As you can see, they are pushing me and pulling my arm, anything can be expected,” he said while police were taking him to the vehicle.
The police were also informed about the planned removal of the sign, in accordance with legal procedure, and they had previously provided assistance during the earlier action of replacing this marking to the company engaged in its replacement.
A truck belonging to the company hired by the municipality was also present on site, and it was supposed to be used for removing the letters from the structure.
A large number of police officers were present, both in uniform and plainclothes, along with several police vehicles.
The sign, which previously read “I Love Kosovska Mitrovica” in Cyrillic, was removed on October 2 last year with the assistance of the Kosovo Police.
In its place, on the same day, a Latin-script sign was installed reading only “Mitrovica,” with a green heart.
