The detention of Igor Uljarevic, the President of the Football Association of Kosovo and Metohija, at the Brnjak border crossing is an act of retaliation and intimidation toward all sports workers in Kosovo and a message that Serbs in that area are not allowed to engage in sports, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated.

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija points out that this is part of an effort by Pristina, led by Albin Kurti, to inject politics into the realm of sports and to confront those who are the bearers of the sporting spirit and activities in Kosovo, and to prevent children from participating in sports.

They note that Uljarevic was interrogated for more than six hours, merely for possessing sports uniforms, with the sole intention of intimidating him and forcing him to leave the territory of Kosovo.

"The reasons for his interrogation highlight the arrogance and fanaticism of the authorities in Pristina, whose goal is to deny Serbs even the right to exist, let alone to engage in sports. Amid a series of illegal and violent closures of Serbian institutions, this attack on a sports worker is an attack on the entire Serbian sports system in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as on all Serbs involved in sports in the region," the Office for Kosovo and Metohija concluded in its statement.
