Osmani on Reeker’s Statement: Kosovo will always have a pro-American government
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani stated today that Kosovo will always have a pro-American government because its citizens are pro-American in their orientation, Ekonomia Online reported.
Following her meeting with two U.S. congressmen, asked about former U.S. diplomat Philip Reeker’s remark that Kosovo needs a government willing to cooperate with the United States, Osmani emphasized that there has never been, and never will be, an anti-American government in Kosovo.
“Everyone has their own views, including Reeker, with whom I had excellent cooperation. There has never been and never will be an anti-American government in Kosovo. Kosovo has had—and will always have—the most pro-American government one could find, because we have the most pro-American people, and every government comes from this people. Therefore, there cannot be a difference between the people who vote for a government and the government itself, although each government has its own methods of collaborating with partners,” Osmani said, as reported by Ekonomia Online.
She added that she has always had close cooperation with the United States and will continue to do so in the future, as she considers Washington a key partner in Kosovo’s development and in, as she put it, safeguarding its freedom and independence, as well as in overcoming security challenges.
“They are an irreplaceable partner for our security and our progress in Euro-Atlantic integration, which is why it is important for us to have full coordination and strong cooperation,” Osmani said.
Reeker earlier stated in an interview for Kosovo Online that Kosovo needs a government capable of cooperating with the United States and ready to implement what has been agreed.
Talks with U.S. Congressmen on Security and Defense
Regarding her meeting with U.S. Congressmen Michael Turner and Donald Norcross, Osmani said that the discussion focused on security, defense, and coordination with the United States.
“Today I had the honor of welcoming two U.S. congressmen to Kosovo. Both have long supported Kosovo and our entire region and have continuously contributed to peace and stability. The topics included bilateral cooperation between Kosovo and the United States, developments in the security and defense sector, our alignment with the NATO Alliance, which we aspire to join, the security challenges we face, and how we can further coordinate with the United States in order to achieve a more successful integration of the Serbian community in Kosovo,” Osmani stated.
