Attorney Dragan Pasic stated today, regarding the accusations made by Kosovo officials against Constitutional Court Judge Radomir Laban, that this case is about political maneuvers and an attempt to obstruct the work of the Constitutional Court, since Laban’s biography had already been known in the past.

Pasic recalled that Judge Laban’s biography was known at the time of his appointment in 2018, but, as he said, he was acceptable to the authorities in Pristina back then.

“It is well known that Judge Radomir Laban was appointed in 2018. At that time, he was acceptable to the then nomenclature of the so-called Kosovo. However, now his criminal past is being highlighted, which was not considered problematic even at the time of his appointment, despite the fact that he had been convicted by a final judgment of the Basic Court in Kraljevo to six years in prison,” Pasic told Kosovo Online.

He is therefore convinced that, in this case, the search is on for a pretext for the political crisis that has arisen in Kosovo following the parliamentary elections.

“This must be a political pretext. If he was unsuitable, that is, if he posed a threat to the national security of the so-called Kosovo, if he acted unconstitutionally and unlawfully, then that has been the case from day one, from the moment he became a judge. Therefore, this is about political moves and an attempt to obstruct the work of the Constitutional Court,” Pasic concluded.

Kosovo’s acting Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, had earlier, at a press conference, called for the initiation of proceedings to dismiss Constitutional Court Judge Radomir Laban, claiming that he had been involved in criminal activities and that he posed “a threat to the constitutional order of Kosovo.”

Before her, accusations against him were also made by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, who withdrew a previously submitted request to the Constitutional Court concerning the process of constituting the parliament, because Laban had been appointed as the reporting judge in that case.
