Pavkovic: It is possible that public opinion in Kosovo is hoping for a change in government in Albania

Milos Pavkovic, a collaborator at the Center for European Policies in Belgrade, assessed that although public opinion in Kosovo may be hoping for a change in government in Albania after the parliamentary elections on May 11, there is still a standard framework and friendly relationship between Kosovo and Albania, regardless of who is in power. However, personal disagreements arise depending on who holds the positions of prime ministers in Tirana and Pristina.
"I think Kosovo is not such an important issue in Albania, while, of course, Albanians from Kosovo follow events in Albania a bit more closely. It has been shown that the relationship of the current Prime Minister Edi Rama toward Kosovo has been quite fluctuating. There have been many ups and downs. There have been many rebukes from Tirana to Pristina, and even joint government meetings, which were previously a practice, were canceled," Pavkovic said.
The main themes of the pre-election campaign in Albania, according to him, were primarily focused on domestic issues and European integration, while Kosovo, although present in some places, was more "on the sidelines."
"It was not a central theme of this campaign, nor of previous ones, but was somehow left aside," Pavkovic said.
