Petkovic: The fact that pressure is directed at Pristina shows that our policy is producing results

The fact that the international community is now putting pressure on Pristina shows that Serbia's policy is yielding results, the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic has said tonight.

Petkovic said in the TV program "Takovska 10" on RTS that it was not about any agreement, because there was no agreement.

"If you mean the Franco-German initiative, it is only an initiative. There is no proposal or plan. It is only discussed. Non-paper cannot be an official document or agreement," explained Petkovic.

He criticized, in this regard, that the opposition has already begun to attack the President of Serbia, Serbian Progressive Party, and the government because of the Parliament session, where President Aleksandar Vucic will speak about Kosovo for the fourth time in a row and ask the deputies to participate in the debate.

"No president has done that so far. We have nothing to hide from our people, we are fighting day and night for Kosovo and Metohija and our interests, our people," underlined Petkovic.

In this fight, he says, Serbia is using all available diplomatic tools, while moving in a small, limited space.

"The room for maneuver is like at the tip of a pin because of everything that happened until 2012, because of all the pressure from the West. On this day, 3,537 days have passed since the Brussels Agreement was signed. All the time, we insist and say that the CSM must be formed, which represents the urgent need of the Serbian people, especially at the moment when they are suffering from the violence of Pristina", Petkovic stressed.

He said that the West could exert the necessary pressure that is necessary for Pristina to start implementing the agreement, because they committed to the formation of the CSM.

"When we talk about the West, there is a range of possibilities and mechanisms to condition Pristina to form the CSM, because it is a prerequisite for them to start the process of normalization, to continue the talks," Petkovic underlined.

Petkovic said that, as someone who participates in negotiations at the technical level, he knows that progress cannot be achieved if there is no mutual trust, and that was lost a long time ago, because what was supposed to be formed did not take too long.

He emphasized that it is the result of Serbia's smart policy, that in those impossible conditions regarding Kosovo, where Serbia is fighting for each of its people, which now strengthens the pressure on Pristina.

"This has not happened before. We are fighting for the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and we are using all possible elements to defend our position in a difficult moment. Europe is at war, and they do not want a conflict here and they are putting enormous pressure on Pristina and Belgrade. The fact that now the pressure is directed at Pristina, it shows that our policy is yielding results," Petkovic stated.
