Petkovic: Instead of gathering around the issue of Kosovo, the opposition is attacking the government and Vucic

The way some representatives of the opposition reacted to increased foreign pressure on Serbia regarding Kosovo and Metohija had once again confirmed the extent of the moral crisis and the degree of foreign influence in the opposition political scene, Petar Petkovic, a member of the Presidency of the Serbian Progressive Party, said in his statement today.

"Instead of the issue of defending state and national interests in Kosovo and Metohija becoming a rallying point, which would be expected and natural if the leaders of the Serbian opposition were motivated by the fight for the interests and well-being of Serbia, we are witnessing their complete reversal of values. The thing that unites the representatives of the right wing and the so-called civil options in recent days is not the interest of the state, but the naked will for power and hatred towards the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in whom they rightly see the main obstacle to their assault on power," Petkovic said.

He assessed how the public could, among other things, see and hear how ideological rivals on the same television show unanimously attacked President Vucic, accusing him at the same time of insufficiently defending Serbian interests and jeopardizing Serbia's European integration by fighting for Kosovo and Metohija.

"Anyone even remotely media literate understands that in that situation something is not normal in the approach of the opposition and that someone can't be guilty of two opposite things. This is just another sad confirmation that the only policy of some Serbian oppositionists is to topple President Vucic, and that his only fault is that he exists and does not allow a decade of hard work to strengthen Serbia to be canceled by the coming to power of irresponsible and non-state-building political forces, whose main motive for engaging in politics is self-interest," Petkovic says.

He pointed out that in the chorus of those attacking President Vucic, those who in the past had wronged both the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, and the Serbian state and national interests were at the forefront.

"Which is another confirmation of how much these people underestimate the citizens of Serbia and the ability of our people to remember and to decide in the democratic process who they will trust to run state affairs". Petkovic concluded.
