By laying the cornerstone for a new facility near the infamous Bistricki Bridge near Leposavic, Xhelal Sveçla intends to open yet another illegal police base aimed at harassing and targeting Serbs in northern Kosovo, said Petar Petkovic, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija. He emphasized that what Pristina falsely claims to be a "security infrastructure facility" is nothing more than an additional instrument to oppress and expel the Serbian people.

"The sole purpose of Kurti’s police in northern Kosovo and Metohija is to impose daily terror on Serbs. The Bistricki Bridge is infamous as a hotspot in northern Kosovo and Metohija where several Serbs have been shot by Kosovo police without anyone ever being held accountable," Petkovic stated in his press release.

He recalled the case of Milan Jovanovic, who was shot while transporting kitchenware, with no consequences for the perpetrators.

"North Kosovo and Metohija was a peaceful region until Kurti and Sveçla forcibly altered the ethnic composition of the police and brought in their monoethnic armed units with fingers on the trigger, despite the Brussels Agreement prohibiting such actions. Today, Kurti’s and Sveçla’s extremist groups are the sole generators of insecurity and illegal activities in this part of the province," Petkovic noted.

He stressed that Serbs in the north perceive Kurti’s police as an occupying force, present solely to intimidate the Serbian population and showcase power.

According to Petkovic, the presence of Albanian police officers in northern Kosovo is illegal and violates the agreements reached in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Petkovic called on the international community to take urgent and decisive action to protect the Serbian people and to prevent the militarization of northern Kosovo carried out by Sveçla and Kurti.
