The Pupin Initiative wrote to Hovenier regarding the arrest of Jovana Radosavljevic: An example of the Pristina authorities’ campaign
The Pupin Initiative, a prominent organization working to strengthen Serbian-American relations, has sent a letter to the US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, urging his intervention following the detention of Jovana Radosavljevic, Executive Director of the New Social Initiative and member of the Pupin Initiative's Advisory Board. Kosovo Online had access to the letter.
In the letter addressed to Ambassador Hovenier, the Pupin Initiative highlighted Radosavljevic's significant contributions to advancing democratic values and human rights, describing her arrest as unjustified and a manifestation of the Pristina authorities’ campaign aimed at spreading fear in predominantly Serbian communities.
The Initiative emphasized that such actions undermine trust, not only among Kosovo Serbs but also within the broader international community, which should be committed to regional peace.
The letter further criticized the role of armed Kosovo police checkpoints in Serb-populated areas, which the Initiative claims have become tools for everyday harassment.
As they noted, residents who lack trust in local institutions often rely on filming incidents with their phones for protection. However, as filming at these checkpoints is prohibited, the Initiative warned about the irresponsible conduct of police forces in northern Kosovo.
The letter of the Pupin Initiative called for urgent international action to address what it described as an "ethnically motivated campaign of intimidation."
The organization underscored the importance of protecting individuals like Radosavljevic, a strong pro-Western advocate for peace in the region, and, as they emphasized, this incident raises broader concerns about the state of human and religious rights for Serbs in Kosovo.
