Radakovic: At the UN Security Council session on Kosovo, UNMIK tried to soften the situation
The Executive Director of the Center for Advocacy of Democratic Culture, Dusan Radakovic, stated that during the United Nations Security Council session, UNMIK had attempted to soften the situation in its report on Kosovo.
Radakovic emphasized that the differences between Belgrade and Pristina’s stances had been once again evident at the UNSC session.
“There was a completely diametrical difference in the stances of Djuric and Gervalla, and we even saw a softened stance from UNMIK on the entire situation. We all know that the situation is very bad, with a massive escalation – we are talking about hours, not days or months, before an incident could happen,” Radakovic said.
As he added, while the Serbian side spoke about the problems Serbs face in Kosovo, Pristina focused on Belgrade without addressing the deteriorating situation in the north.
“The session highlighted a stark contrast, where the Serbian side discussed issues, attacks, and sexual harassment in the north, while Pristina increasingly wanted to talk about Belgrade and ignored the situation in Mitrovica, including the politicization of the police, which even the international community acknowledges,” Radakovic noted.
According to him, each party presented its view of the current reality at the UNSC session, but what stood out was UNMIK’s attempt to soften the tense situation.
“A realistic picture of the situation was presented, with each side portraying it in their own way, but I believe UNMIK tried to tone down the entire situation, even though it is very severe,” Radakovic concluded.
