Rapajic: Everything now depends on whether the PDK will accept a partial solution
Program Director of the NGO Center for Advocacy of Democratic Culture Aleksandar Rapajic assessed that the absence of a candidate for president of Kosovo shows that political parties do not want an agreement on the issue, but only want to shift responsibility onto one another, adding that everything now depends on the PDK, namely whether it will take part in the presidential vote if the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers are not fully adopted.
Speaking about the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers, Rapajic noted that its adoption is still pending.
“This is only the adoption of the draft. As they say in Kosovo, this is the first reading of the law, not its adoption. A period must pass during which amendments can be submitted, when the Assembly has the opportunity to amend the law and propose changes. Only after those amendments and a second vote is the law adopted,” Rapajic told Kosovo Online.
He said that, for this reason, there is a possibility that the PDK could now support the election of a president, while the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers might nevertheless not be fully adopted later.
“The PDK has said several times that it will not take part in the presidential vote unless this law is fully adopted. So now everything depends on whether the PDK will accept this kind of partial solution or not,” Rapajic said.
According to him, an additional problem is that the name of the candidate for president of Kosovo is still unknown.
“We do not even have the name of a candidate for president, so it seems to me that no one wants to elect a president, but they only want to accuse the other side of being responsible for it and, in any case, go into an election campaign,” Rapajic concluded.
