The Serb List on the construction of a police station in Zubin Potok: We demand a reaction from EULEX and KFOR

The Serb List stated today that the announcement of the construction of a police station near the elementary school and kindergarten in Zubin Potok was an example of institutional pressure by the authorities in Pristina on the Serbs in Kosovo, and called on EULEX and KFOR to react, as they were responsible for the security of all citizens.

According to the statement, the construction of a police station is planned "with the unlawful seizure of land from educational institutions, for the accommodation of the mono-national Kurti’s police that the Serbs do not see as a part of the community". This has caused dissatisfaction among citizens in northern Kosovo, especially in the municipality of Zubin Potok.

"There have been too many examples of repression and beating of citizens in the municipality of Zubin Potok by Kurti's police officers, and this move has understandably caused concern among citizens. At the same time, this decision aims to create additional tensions and escalate the situation in northern Kosovo and Metohija, ignoring calls from the international community for de-escalation and the implementation of the agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities," the statement said.

The Serb List reminds the public that "Kurti's regime presents false information about the existence of a decision from 2018 on the construction of a police station because such a decision was never submitted to the local self-government, and consent or appropriate permits for the construction of such a facility were not requested from the then leadership".

"We appeal to international representatives to restrain Kurti and prevent the escalation of the situation on the ground and the continuation of the militarization of our municipalities. The construction of paramilitary bases by Pristina in northern Kosovo and Metohija increasingly resembles an open-air prison or North Korea rather than European villages and towns. The institutional pressure that Kurti is exerting on our citizens, including children, has gone too far, and they must react urgently. We demand a reaction from EULEX and KFOR, who are responsible for the security of all citizens, but we also believe that they are aware that this move is not a step in the right direction in terms of de-escalating the situation," the Serb List states.
