A delegation of the Serb List, led by President Zlatan Elek, held a meeting today with Miroslav Jenča, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas, and called on the UN to take concrete steps to protect the basic human rights and freedoms of Serbs in Kosovo.

"During the meeting, a number of specific examples were presented illustrating the dramatically difficult situation faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, including continuous institutional pressure, politically motivated arrests, ethnically motivated attacks, the endangerment of Serbian Orthodox Church property, and organized provocations by the authorities in Pristina," the Serb List said in a statement.

Elek, they added, particularly pointed to the systematic marginalization and violation of both collective and individual rights of the Serbian people, as well as to the unacceptable violence being carried out through police and judicial institutions under the direct control of Albin Kurti. The statement also highlights politically motivated processes aimed at intimidating and demoralizing Serbs, pressures on healthcare workers, teachers, civil servants, and political representatives, and the unacceptable construction of new bridges over the Ibar without consulting the Serbian community—perceived as symbols of division and provocation rather than integration.

The Serb List delegation called on the United Nations to take concrete steps to protect the basic rights and freedoms of Serbs, and to use its authority to emphasize the need to return to dialogue, legal certainty, and respect for UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

“A clear appeal was made to representatives of the international community to finally respond to the institutional and political violence, and not to remain silent observers while the social and security position of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija continues to deteriorate before their eyes. The Serb List will continue to be the voice of its people and protect their interests both domestically and internationally,” the statement concluded.
