The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, has strongly condemned the physical attack on Serbia's ambassador to Spain, Irena Sarac, which occurred this afternoon in Madrid.

"I strongly condemn the physical attack on Ambassador Sarac in the center of Madrid. We demand a full investigation and accountability from all relevant authorities for this outrageous incident and act of violence against our country's highest diplomatic representative," Djuric said in a statement to Informer.

According to the portal, late this afternoon in central Madrid, a young man physically attacked Serbian Ambassador Irena Sarac on the street where she lives, causing injuries to her back. Witnesses suggested that, based on the attacker’s speech, the individual might be of Albanian origin.

Witnesses reported that the young man approached Ambassador Sarac while she was speaking on the phone in Serbian, asked her if she was from Serbia, and then kicked her in the back before fleeing. Several witnesses tried unsuccessfully to catch the attacker. The incident was reported to the police, who arrived at the scene and are conducting an investigation.

Ambassador Sarac is in good condition, according to Informer’s source.
