Spahiu: Forming institutions should not be a recommendation from the US or EU, it is in Kosovo's interest

Analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu said that forming institutions is in Kosovo's interest and that it should not be a recommendation from the European Union or the United States, but rather the desire and willingness of Kosovo's politicians.

Although calls are coming from Washington and Brussels to form Kosovo's institutions as soon as possible, Spahiu told Kosovo Online that it cannot be expected that Kosovo's prime minister in a caretaker capacity, Albin Kurti, will heed them because, as he noted, he has not even listened to the people of Kosovo.

„The formation of institutions is in Kosovo's national interest, and it should not be a recommendation from anyone. As for whether Kurti will listen to what the Americans say, that is a question mark. He has not listened to them before either. If he does not listen to the interests of the people of Kosovo, how can we expect him to listen to what America or someone else tells him?“ Spahiu said.

Spahiu believes that the US and EU will not impose bans or sanctions on Kosovo because it has failed to form its institutions, but he added that Kosovo is losing a great deal because of the political deadlock.

„The implementation of the agreements reached in Brussels with President Vucic, which is in Kosovo's national interest, is being delayed, along with many other things. There is no reconciliation, no roads are being built, nothing is being built, nothing is being done. Apart from demolishing illegal structures on the lakes, nothing else is being done. That is nevertheless a major loss for Kosovo“, the analyst said.

Spahiu believes that Kurti would not respond to external pressure, describing him as stingy in negotiations with the Democratic League of Kosovo over the election of Kosovo's president.

„Kurti is seeking a president who would be under his control, and that is unacceptable both to the opposition and to everyone else. The people of Kosovo gave Kurti the opportunity to form a government, but not to keep all the institutions in his hands“, Spahiu said.
