Spahiu: Self-Determination is shooting itself in the foot, Kurti is challenging Kosovo’s Constitution

University professor Nexhmedin Spahiu said that Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his Self-Determination Movement are challenging the Constitution of Kosovo by failing to constitute the Kosovo Assembly within the constitutional deadline, Teve 1 reported.

“Self-Determination is shooting itself in the foot. Albin Kurti is challenging the Constitution of Kosovo. In this way, he is also irritating his own voters. There is no reason for the Assembly and the government not to be formed. The issue of the president is a different matter,” Spahiu told Teve 1.

He assessed that the Democratic League of Kosovo’s demand that the president be nominated by the party is a legitimate one.

“The LDK’s demand regarding the presidency is normal. All institutions are structured in such a way as to ensure a balance of power,” Spahiu stressed.

He expressed hope that the situation would change and that, as he put it, “Albin Kurti might give in after some time.”

“It remains to be seen what will happen. It would be best for the LDK to propose two names for president and for us to move forward,” Spahiu said.
