Stano: The meeting of chief negotiators of Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels on Wednesday

The next meeting at the level of the chief negotiators of Belgrade and Pristina will take place in Brussels on Wednesday, EU Spokesperson Peter Stano announced, adding that he expected both sides to show flexibility and readiness for compromise regarding the dinar issue. He emphasized that he hoped this would be the final meeting on this topic.

Stano mentioned that the meeting would seek a sustainable temporary solution for people affected by the CBK regulation.

"The EU expects both sides to show flexibility and readiness for compromise at the meeting on Wednesday," he stated.

Stano also says that the best place for Kosovo and Serbia to discuss the use of the dinar is under the auspices of the EU, emphasizing that the EU is there to help find a solution for people affected by the CBK regulation.

"We expect both sides to come to the seventh meeting and discuss this issue, ready to find a solution that will satisfy both parties but primarily address the needs of people affected on the ground," Stano said.

He added that he hoped this would be the final meeting on this topic because, as he explained, these discussions diverted attention from what was truly needed.

"What is really needed is progress in implementing the Ohrid Agreement with the Implementation Annex. We hope that the parties will be able to act in a European spirit and achieve the necessary compromise. But again, like everything else in the dialogue, it really doesn't depend on what we wish for, it depends on the readiness and ability of both sides to reach an acceptable compromise," the EU spokesperson stated.

According to him, after all these meetings, the EU expects both sides to act European.

"'Who said what, who did what, who refused what' is not the way we conduct negotiations. These are meetings at the level of the chief negotiators. The chief negotiators are not at the highest political level, these are not organized media events. They try to find solutions in confidential talks, which is also the European way to advance diplomatic processes at the technical level – the level of the chief negotiators, in a diplomatic manner, in a European way. Not through the media, not through public accusations, pointing fingers at others," Stano explained.

As he emphasized, the EU continues to assist both sides in reaching the necessary compromise.

"People are affected by these issues. By spending energy on resolving this over five, six, seven, or eight meetings, we cannot address other problems that are even more urgent, such as implementing agreements in the dialogue. It is not for us to comment on every move or remark in the negotiations, we simply encourage both sides to show the necessary readiness to act in a European manner and to finally agree on a compromise solution because, in the end, that will benefit the people affected by this decision," Stano stated.
