Acting Director of the Health Center Gnjilane, based in Pasjane, Dr. Violeta Trajkovic, who today received a decoration from the President of Serbia on behalf of the institution, stated that it is a great honor for her personally and for the institution she leads, emphasizing that the maternity ward in Pasjane is important for the survival of Serbs in Kosovo.

The only rural maternity ward in Europe can boast an increasing number of births year after year.

Last year, 136 babies were born there, and today the institution was awarded the Sretenje Order, Second Class, for special merits and achieved results in the field of healthcare.

“It is a great honor and pleasure for me that today, as Acting Director of the Health Center Gnjilane, based in Pasjane, I received the Sretenje Order. It is a great honor for me as a medical specialist. I have been a doctor for 20 years, and from my very first working day I have worked in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija,” Dr. Violeta Trajkovic told Kosovo Online.

She emphasized that the maternity ward in Pasjane is the only rural maternity ward in Europe.

“Each year, we have an increasing number of births. The existence of this maternity ward is extremely important for the continued presence and survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija,” Dr. Trajkovic stressed.

Over the past ten years, a total of 1,337 babies have been born at the Pasjane maternity ward. Women giving birth there come not only from the Kosovo Pomoravlje region, but also from Štrpce, central Kosovo, and southern Serbia.
