Former diplomat Sylë Ukshini stated that the visit of European Union Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos to Pristina came at a sensitive political moment, describing it as symbolic, Dukagjini reported.

Ukshini said that Kos visited Kosovo during the election process, which is why the visit can also be viewed as a formal fulfillment of the institutional agenda.

Among other things, he noted that Kosovo had failed to properly capitalize on the momentum created by geopolitical developments in Europe, unlike Montenegro and Albania.

“It was more of a symbolic visit, as though the Commissioner was merely ‘ticking the box’ to show that she had visited Kosovo. Furthermore, there are two essential aspects within this visit: that the perspective of European integration is linked to the issue of security and the war in Ukraine. I believe that Kosovo either did not know how, or did not have the opportunity, to take advantage of this chance, because these crises are generating a new process. Montenegro and Albania are expected to benefit from it, while Kosovo is in a less favorable position, as there has been no progress even regarding obtaining candidate status for EU membership,” Ukshini said, as reported by Dukagjini.
