The flags of Serbia and the United Nations were removed from the flagpoles in front of the municipal building in Leposavic today, and the UNMIK mission stated for Kosovo Online that they were establishing facts regarding media reports about the removal of the UN flag and they emphasize that the property of the United Nations is inviolable and must be preserved and secured at all times.
“UNMIK is aware of media reports about the removal of the flag from the Leposavic municipal building. As we establish the facts, we reiterate that the premises and property of the United Nations are inviolable and must be preserved and secured at all times,“ the UNMIK response sent to our inquiry state.
By the way, Kosovo Online revealed on December 24th last year that in Leposavic, current municipal officials from the administration of Mayor Hetemi broke into the UNMIK office and removed the UNMIK sign, despite the Conventions on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on February 13, 1946, in New York, which declare UN premises inviolable.
