Vucic: The Declaration text had been prepared for days, Serbia explicitly opposed two positions

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated today that no informal dinner with informal conclusions could change anything, but it could show the nature of relations, as reported by Politika.

After the key handover ceremony for apartments allocated to refugees from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vucic was asked about the initial and final versions of the Declaration adopted in Athens, and he said that such statements did not hold formal legal significance, but they did shed light on the pursued policy.

According to him, the Declaration text had been in preparation for days, and the first version was harmonized with some participating countries of the informal gathering.

He added that Serbia had explicitly opposed two positions in the document, one of which concerned sanctions against Russia.

"For us, all of this is very challenging; we managed to achieve what is important for Serbia under difficult circumstances. Four countries were present, including two from the EU, and Ukraine, all under pressure to recognize Kosovo. These were crucial discussions for us. I am trying to get the best for Serbia," he stated.

When asked about the BRICS countries' meeting, he said that he hadn't had much time to follow everything that had been happening in that meeting, but he would try to catch up during the evening.

"It's evident that they want to make a challenge to the Group of Seven. There are many questions in that regard, but conditions are being created for a different world to emerge; I won't comment further on that," Vucic concluded.
