Vucic: Serbia pursues an independent policy; we are the only country in Europe not to impose sanctions on Russia while maintaining friendly relations with Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated today that Serbia pursues an independent policy and looks after its own interests, stressing that it is the only country in Europe that has not imposed sanctions on Russia while also maintaining friendly and good relations with Ukraine, which does not recognize Kosovo.

Addressing citizens in Belegis, Vucic said that the war in Ukraine has been ongoing for four years and that Serbia's positions remain the same as they were when the conflict began, RTV reported.

"We have our own policy and look after our own interests. Four and a half years have passed since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The conclusions we reached at the outset of the conflict remain unchanged today. We are still the only country in Europe that has not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation, while maintaining friendly and good relations with Ukraine because Ukraine does not recognize Kosovo as an independent state. And we must talk and work with everyone," Vucic emphasized.

He said that a state is not a toy and cannot be governed by trying to please everyone or ensuring that everyone approves of every decision it makes.

Vucic stressed that his priority is to preserve peace and stability, as well as economic progress so that citizens can enjoy better living standards. He added that his job is not to be liked by everyone, but to lead the country through challenges and confront the problems it faces.

"My job is to resolve those problems and to meet both with those whom you like to see and those whom you do not like to see, so that I can ensure peace and stability for our country and for every one of our children. And peace and stability bring economic progress," Vucic said.
