Vucic: Strategic dialogue between Serbia and the US is undoubtedly a turning point for us

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the Innovation and Education Park of the Demining Center and attended a presentation of deminers' work on projects to clear unexploded ordnance.

"What we are doing today is important work, and I am grateful to the United States and its government for the support they are providing to our country in demining. We cannot change the past or influence it, but we can influence the future," Vucic wrote on Instagram.

He added that the strategic dialogue between Serbia and the US was undoubtedly a turning point for Belgrade.

"It is also an opportunity to establish a new era in our relations after some difficult years, based on mutual respect and understanding. I look optimistically at the development of these relations and cooperation in all important areas. Demining is above all a matter of the safety of our citizens. The Demining Center, which had only four employees just a few years ago, now has 22 people and is becoming an increasingly serious center with greater responsibilities and capabilities, respected and valued around the world," Vucic said.

Vucic stressed that it was important to ensure a safe environment for people.

"We must ensure a safe life for our people, guarantee that every child can safely walk through forests, along rivers, through fields and meadows, without the danger of leftover mines and bombs. There is still a great deal of difficult and important work ahead of us, and I am endlessly grateful to the people employed at the Demining Center, as well as to representatives of companies from Pale and everyone carrying out this important work and thereby protecting the lives of our people," the Serbian president concluded.

Vucic also said that it was important to completely clear the territory of Bujanovac.

"It is important that Kopaonik has been cleared, and we must also completely clear Bujanovac," Vucic said during his tour of the center, where he attended a presentation of deminers' work on projects to clear unexploded ordnance.

Bojan Glamoclija, Director of the Republic of Serbia's Demining Center, said that the priority was mines in Bujanovac planted by terrorist organizations.

"These are not conventional minefields, but groups of mines. It is very difficult to determine where these mines are now, which is why we had to organize a mixed team. And now we have started receiving good information," Glamoclija said.
