Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said this evening that during the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he spoke candidly about Serbia's position and the situation in Kosovo, emphasizing that he will continue to advocate for the survival of the Serbian people in those areas.

He highlighted that he discussed the complex conditions in which Serbs live in Kosovo with representatives from numerous countries, including the United States, but that he could not disclose all details due to an agreement in place.

"I understood well from certain remarks who was behind certain actions, who wasn’t directly involved but didn’t mind, and who was against some of the actions carried out by Kurti’s regime. It is a complicated knot where we have to maintain peace, while at the same time preserving the lives and existence of our people in Kosovo and Metohija. Simultaneously, we must safeguard Serbia’s legal-political sovereignty while looking out for the interests of the entire nation and all Serbian citizens," Vucic told RTS, adding that the talks about Kosovo were not easy.

He emphasized that Serbia's duty is to strengthen its economy to, among other things, help its people in Kosovo.

He also pointed out that during his time in New York, he worked to position Serbia both politically and economically.

"Events are changing faster and more frequently than before. It was certainly intense, not just for us but for others as well," the Serbian president noted, stressing that the Serbian delegation had numerous political contacts.

According to him, the main discussions took place during meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

"The times ahead are not easy, and this applies to everyone. We will have to improve the situation in energy and agriculture—though we cannot influence droughts and rains—but we must invest even more in industry, mining, and energy," he stated.

Middle East Diverts American Attention, Europe Must Stop the Conflict in Ukraine

He said that, alongside the meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the main topic in New York was the situation in the Middle East.

Vucic noted that "the Middle East is consuming America’s attention," suggesting that Washington will focus on resolving that issue, which, he added, will not have a favorable impact on Ukraine.

It is up to Europe, the Serbian president emphasized, to stop the conflict in Ukraine and to attempt to initiate talks about a ceasefire, adding that European leaders are also committed to calming the situation in the Middle East.

"Macron has given his all to stop the bloodshed in the Middle East. Europe must stop the conflict in Ukraine and try to initiate peace talks," Vucic said.

We Must Talk to Everyone

The president emphasized that Serbia’s reputation is reflected in the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to speak with him, as only a few had that opportunity.

"I followed his speech, and we must first talk to everyone. We have countless Arab friends, and we maintain a correct relationship with the Jewish people. When I met with Bibi, they asked, 'Why did you meet with him?' But the job of the Serbian president is to talk to everyone. Not everyone succeeded, like I did, in speaking with the Israeli prime minister. He said, 'I want to meet Aleksandar,' and that shows that Serbia has gained respect and is becoming a more important country on the world map," Vucic explained.
