Vucic: Those who have violated territorial integrity in Serbia are the ones talking about it
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that Serbia was in a serious political situation, as a country surrounded by NATO member states, and also because it was the only country in Europe that had not imposed sanctions on Russia. He emphasized that Serbia is arming itself to preserve its airspace and that it must be strong enough to survive.
Vucic highlighted that consultations had been held with all political parties that participated in the elections, except for three electoral lists that had refused to participate in the discussions.
After meeting with leaders of the ruling coalition parties, Vucic addressed the public, stating that he had accepted the information that the "Serbia Most Not Stop" list has a majority sufficient for forming a parliamentary majority and the Government of the Republic of Serbia and that they would provide him with the name of the Prime Minister-designate within a few days.
He noted that Serbia was in a serious political situation, primarily due to the geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe.
"Because of the inability to solve problems peacefully, and because of that, Serbia, as a militarily neutral country, surrounded by NATO countries and aspirants, and as the only country in Europe that has not imposed sanctions on Russia, is under great pressure," Vucic said.
Elections in Belgrade on June 2nd
According to his words, the elections will be held within the electoral timeframe.
"My idea is for the elections to be on June 2nd. I want everyone to have time to prepare for the campaign. I will say why I asked for this. There was no foreign pressure, firstly. I talked to friends from the East, Ana Brnabic talked to people from the Quint, there was no pressure. For the country, it is best to calm passions, regardless of senseless reasons, such as holidays. It is important that we try to have elections for which everyone will say 'That is the result,'" he said.
He called on people from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to strictly observe the laws, especially regarding changing residence in Belgrade.
"Local stability is important, no matter who wins. We will have big problems, it is necessary to respect the OSCE recommendations. I think with this recommendation, I have shown that we want better and more respect for democratic norms, unlike those who criticized us. We must nurture democracy," he added.
Serbia is arming itself to protect its airspace and country
When asked by journalists about the claims of analyst Nedzat Ahatovic that "the arming of Vucic's Serbia is a threat to peace," Vucic stated that it was so because Serbia now accounted for 50 percent of the economy of the Western Balkans.
"Serbia is being targeted with the worst lies. Ten thousand articles have been published claiming that we will provoke war and that we are Putin's servants. They cannot understand that Serbia pursues a policy of freedom. It is not a problem when someone buys 12 Rafale jets. The problem arises when Serbia negotiates the purchase of 12 Rafale jets. Why is everyone in the region arming themselves?" Vucic asked.
He stated that Serbia must be strong enough to survive.
"They talk to us about territorial integrity, those who have endangered territorial integrity and seceded a part of our territory. We did not attack anyone, but you attacked us. We were not strangers in Kosovo and Metohija, but you were strangers in Serbia. We did not step on the soil of any other sovereign state and threaten anyone, but you did," he emphasized.
According to him, there is a kind of vassal mentality that Serbia must not say anything to anyone, while everything is poured over Serbia.
"Now they attack Marko Djuric, I see all other informers and snitches reporting someone somewhere. Imagine, he met with a 'villain'. Yet you praise those who go to the grave of Adem Jashari. And then you write about how the security services have paralyzed some criminals. Everything is twisted in this country," Vucic said.
He emphasized that Serbia was arming itself from domestic industry.
"So that various small fries do not think they can take away our land, as they did before," he said.
