Serbia’s Minister of Justice, Nenad Vujic, strongly condemned the armed attack on Serbs in Decani, in which two Serbian civilians were seriously wounded, stressing that it cannot be viewed as an isolated incident but rather as part of a pattern of continuous violence against Serbs. He emphasized that international missions mandated to ensure peace and security in Kosovo have an obligation to protect the Serbian population.

“This is yet another grave crime directed against the Serbian people, which cannot be seen as an isolated incident, but as part of ongoing violence, intimidation, and pressure to which Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija have been subjected for years by the provisional institutions in Pristina,” Vujic said, according to a statement by the Government of Serbia.

According to him, the attack is a direct consequence of an atmosphere of impunity and open hatred toward Serbs that is being systematically spread and encouraged by Pristina.

“Responsibility does not lie solely with the direct perpetrators, but also with all those who have allowed the promotion of violence against Serbs and who encourage violence to become a daily occurrence,” the minister stated.

Vujic called for an urgent and impartial investigation to be conducted by international missions in Kosovo, the identification of the attackers and their strict punishment, as well as a clear determination of the responsibility of Pristina’s provisional institutions, whose actions encourage and justify these and similar crimes.

He particularly emphasized that international missions mandated to ensure peace and security in Kosovo are obliged to protect the Serbian population, and that any failure on their part to react constitutes an additional violation of the fundamental human rights of Serbs.

“Serbia will not remain silent in the face of violence against its people. All attacks on Serbs will be documented and presented before relevant international bodies, especially the Security Council,” Vujic said.

Vujic added that the Ministry of Justice is providing full support to the injured individuals and their families, and stressed that the Republic of Serbia will continue to use all available legal and institutional means to protect Serbs in Kosovo.

In the armed incident at a café in Decani, two Serbs were wounded, as well as an Albanian lawyer, identified by the initials D.C.

Following the wounding of the two Serbs, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija reacted, stating that Radovan M. and Dejan S. have been displaced Serbs from Kosovo since 1999, and that the attack on them demonstrates how endangered Serbian returnees are in Kosovo, as targets of Kurti’s policy.

The Serb List also pointed out that the armed attack shows that Serbs in Kosovo are exposed to a constant threat, and that violence against them is no longer perceived as an exception, but as the result of a dangerous policy that is being systematically implemented.
