SL: Armed attack on Serbs in Decani the result of a dangerous policy being systematically pursued

The Serb List stated that the armed attack on Dejan S. and Radovan M. in Decani demonstrates that Serbs in Kosovo are exposed to a constant threat and that violence against them is no longer perceived as an exception, but rather as the consequence of a dangerous policy being systematically pursued.

They point out that this incident did not occur by chance.

“It is the result of an anti-Serb atmosphere built over many years and promoted by the regime in Pristina through public appearances, political messages, and a complete lack of accountability for those who attack Serbs. In such an environment, national affiliation has become a sufficient reason for someone to be targeted by violence,” the Serb List said in a statement posted on Instagram.

They further note that it is particularly concerning that none of the numerous attacks on Serbs in the recent period have received an adequate judicial outcome.

“When crimes go unpunished, a clear message is sent that violence is permissible. It is precisely this message that today emboldens new attackers and leads to increasingly grave consequences,” the Serb List warned.

Serb List demands that this case be fully clarified and that those responsible be punished, as well as that the practice of turning a blind eye to attacks on Serbs finally be brought to an end.

“We call on international representatives to assume their share of responsibility and prevent further escalation of violence, as it is evident that the current situation is leading toward even greater insecurity. Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija are not seeking privileges, but the right to a safe life and equal protection under the law—a right that has been denied to them for far too long,” Serb List concluded.

In an armed incident at a café in Decani, two Serbs were injured, along with Albanian lawyer D.C., while Ismet Zukaj, suspected of attempted murder, was arrested at the scene.

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated that the attack on Dejan S. and Radovan M. was the result of Pristina’s anti-Serb policy, which, as they said, emboldened an Albanian extremist who fired a burst of bullets at them solely because they are Serbs.
