Sociologist Vladimir Vuletic stated that the unexpected visit of the EU’s Special Envoy for Dialogue to Pristina should be interpreted as a sign of the EU’s concern over the institutional crisis in Kosovo, because it does not want destabilization in this part of Europe.

“We are witnessing the fact that, at this point, I have lost track of how long it has been, no government has been formed in Pristina. We are facing a situation that shows there is no possibility for further talks or negotiations, and in general, no progress toward stabilization in this part of Europe. That is a problem for Europe and for the international community,” Vuletic told Kosovo Online.

He explained that it is important for the EU to continue the negotiation process that would lead to stabilization in the Western Balkans.

“That is why they are very interested in what is happening in Pristina,” Vuletic specified.

He added that for Sorensen and the EU, it is important to know when the next phase of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina could continue.

“They are primarily concerned about the situation in the region. They want to reach some kind of model as soon as possible, one that ensures stability and removes the need for them to constantly worry whether, at any given moment, some sort of escalation could happen here,” Vuletic concluded.

Earlier today, Sorensen met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, followed by a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti. After the meetings, Sorensen emphasized that discussions with Kosovo leaders focused on the implementation of agreements reached in the dialogue, but added that due to the current political situation in Kosovo, things may take longer.
