Why are new recognitions of Kosovo "blocked"?

New recognitions and the integration process of Kosovo remain a challenge even after 15 years since the declaration of independence, writes Ekonomia online.

There are no new recognitions, no membership in international organizations and that is the negative balance of Kosovo in recent years.

Although Kosovo marked the 15th anniversary of statehood, there is no progress in the integration process, except for efforts through requests for membership in the European Union and the Council of Europe.

The Self-Determination Movement cited several reasons why, in their opinion, Kosovo has not progressed in these two processes.

Arbreshe Kryeziu Hyseni, from Self-Determination, says that the pandemic, the energy crisis, inflation, as well as the dialogue process have influenced the fact that there are no new recognitions of Kosovo.

She also said that Serbia was continuing the campaign for the withdrawal of recognition, but that Kosovo institutions were doing their job so that these goals are not achieved.

The member of the ruling party added that the five EU countries that did not recognize Kosovo remained in the "focus of Kosovo's interest".

Analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu believes that the non-recognition of Kosovo is an issue that interests Serbia more than other countries.

The last recognition that Kosovo received was two years ago from Israel, which was made possible after the agreement that Kosovo and Serbia reached in Washington on September 4, 2020, reminds Ekonomia online.
