Citizens of North Mitrovica: Tournament near the Milic Brothers Square an insult to Serbs

Citizens of North Mitrovica, reacting to the organization of a basketball tournament near the Milic Brothers Square, say that this is an insult to the Serbian community.

“As I see it, they didn’t like the local venues, so they went up there, set up a post office, and took half of the promenade. This now is the culmination—they do whatever they want, however they want. How long they’ll keep doing this, I don’t know. They’re doing it because of the elections. That’s why they’re doing it,” one resident said.

Another resident agreed, stressing that holding the tournament near the Milic Brothers Square—dedicated to young men who died during the war—is a deep humiliation for Serbs.

“It’s a disgrace what they’re doing. It’s a humiliation for Serbs. That square is dedicated to the Milic Brothers who were killed during the war, and no Serb supports this. It’s a humiliation in a way, I don’t know where this is leading, but they’re clearly trying to do this before the elections, to seize as much territory in the North as possible,” he added.
