Citizens of North Mitrovica: We remember our ancestors for their bravery and for safeguarding the homelandTop of Form
Citizens of North Mitrovica told Kosovo Online that Sretenje, the Statehood Day of Serbia, represented a day to remember Serbian history and ancestors, but also to love and defend their homeland.
Sretenje could teach us to look up to our ancestors, Anja Arsic from North Mitrovica believes.
"To remember them through these holidays. Of course, primarily because of their bravery and safeguarding of the homeland," she said.
One of the older fellow citizens told Kosovo Online that Sretenje is proof that we have a beautiful and good past.
"That the Serbs were very nice people. We had good states and we guarded them and fought against the Turks to preserve Serbianhood and origin. Now you see how it is, it's shameful what the opposition is doing, how they are not ashamed in front of their own people? To go against their own people and complain to others. Who can be better than your own people? But there are also such people, what can we do," he said.
An elderly fellow citizen wished a happy holiday and added that the history of the Serbs could have taught us many beautiful things and everything we have now.
"Our history has given us and provided for us," she stated.
Regarding today's holiday, one local resident added that history taught us to be brave.
"To be brave and patient and to love our country and defend it, the only one we have," he emphasizes.
