Educational workers from North Mitrovica: We don't know how long we can endure like this

It has been more than a month since the Central Bank of Kosovo issued a regulation banning the dinar. Crowds in front of branches of the Postal Savings Bank are still regular, and today educational workers are trying to withdraw their earnings.

They have shared their dissatisfaction over the continuous inability to withdraw money with Kosovo Online journalists.

"It is very difficult for us, for over a month now, we haven't been able to withdraw our earnings. In my family, I'm the only one working, and I have to support the whole family. I have to go to central Serbia to withdraw the money I've earned so I can feed my family and get everything else we need. I don't know how long we can endure like this," Katarina Petronijevic said.

Professor Aleksandar Janicijevic notes that educational workers do not want to waste their time and energy waiting in lines for their hard-earned money.

"We, as educational workers, don't want to waste our time and energy waiting in lines for our hard-earned money, instead, we want to spend our energy and time on educating and nurturing generations, as I personally have done for more than 30 years," he said.

Snezana Vulicevic states that she is unable to withdraw her duly earned salary for the second month in a row and that long queues are a daily occurrence.

"It might be easier for us younger ones to go to Raska or Novi Pazar to withdraw money, but what about pensioners and social assistance recipients? Every outing from home is difficult for them, and to wait in lines from morning till late afternoon... This has affected our lives, it is hard to pay bills and buy groceries. There is already a shortage of hygiene products at school, even chalk, which we need, and we can't procure them because of Pristina's ban. I hope something will be resolved. Everything is getting worse and worse, there is no improvement," Vulicevic says.
