EULEX on the arrested Obrenovic: We are following the case, we will ask the lawyer about the treatment of the detainee
EULEX was following the case closely and would attend the custody hearing. During the detention hearing, EULEX observers would be able to ask the lawyer about the treatment of the detainee, this Mission stated for Kosovo online when asked to comment on the statement of lawyer Miljkovic that his client Dusan Obrenovic had been brutally beaten by the Kosovo police and whether anyone from the European mission would investigate these allegations.
As stated by EULEX, in addition to this case, they were monitoring more than 60 cases related to Kosovo Serbs.
"We can confirm that EULEX is closely monitoring the case and will be attending the detention hearing. During the detention hearing, EULEX observers will be able to ask lawyers about the treatment of the detainee. EULEX continues to closely monitor over 60 cases involving Kosovo Serbs, or possibly affect relations between communities through their Case Monitoring Unit," EULEX said.
Two arrested Serbs, Rados Petrovic, and Dusan Obrenovic, were transferred this morning from police custody in South Mitrovica to court custody in Pristina, and they should appear before a judge today.
Lawyer Predrag Miljkovic, who represents Dusan Obrenovic, who was arrested in Zvecan, said that his client had been brutally beaten by members of the Kosovo Police.
"I was hired by the family and visited him at the police station in the southern part of Mitrovica. Dusan Obrenovic was severely beaten by the Kosovo police during his arrest, and as he says, when he was brought to the police station. He suffered various head injuries, cuts, lacerations, and hematomas on the head. He was terribly and brutally beaten. He was beaten so badly that he almost became confused. He told me that he was beaten here in the municipal building when he was arrested," Miljkovic said.
