More than 210,000 citizens left Kosovo during Albin Kurti’s rule
According to the latest statistics published by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), more than 360,000 citizens of Kosovo received residence permits in European countries between 2015 and 2024. However, the vast majority of them left during Albin Kurti’s time in power – from 2020 to 2024, 210,442 residents of Kosovo became citizens of other European countries, Demokracia reports.
Despite the self-praise of caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his ministers and MPs about record economic growth, new jobs, and reforms in various sectors, hundreds of thousands of Kosovo citizens chose Europe over Kosovo during his mandate alone.
These statistics do not include those who may be living illegally abroad, nor those who emigrated to the United Kingdom, the United States, or Canada.
The number of Kosovo citizens who received long-term residence permits in the EU by year was as follows: 2024 – 38,770; 2023 – 48,937; 2022 – 46,965; 2021 – 43,636; 2020 – 32,134.
Eurostat published data for 2024 on citizens who received residence permits in European countries, showing that between 2015 and 2024, 360,000 citizens of Kosovo obtained such permits in the EU for the first time.
In 2024 alone, that number reached 38,770.
The statistics do not include those who may have obtained residence in the United States, the United Kingdom, or Canada, nor those who may be living illegally in an EU country.
