Protests continue in central Kosovo over arrests of directors of educational and healthcare institutions

Protests in support of the arrested directors continued today in all healthcare and educational institutions across the municipality of Gracanica.

A team from the Kosovo Online portal today visited the Pristina Clinical Hospital Center based in Gracanica and the Health Center in Gracanica, where workers gathered at 9 a.m. in support of the arrested directors, including Bratislav Lazic and Mirjana Dimitrijevic, the directors of these institutions.

Among those arrested are also the principal of the “Braca Aksic” Elementary School in Lipljan, the principal of the “Miladin Mitic” Elementary School in Laplje Selo, the principal of the Electrotechnical School in Susica, the principal of the secondary Mechanical Engineering School in Preoce, and the director of the Health Center in Donja Gusterica.

Workers also gathered at 9 a.m. in front of other educational and healthcare institutions.

This is the seventh day of gatherings by workers in central Kosovo.

Support gatherings for the arrested Serbs have been held since May 20, and it has been announced that they will continue until the arrested directors are released.

On May 21, the Basic Court in Pristina ordered 30-day detention for the arrested directors.

The Gracanica Municipal Assembly adopted a Declaration requesting that the competent institutions allow the arrested councilors and directors of educational and healthcare institutions to defend themselves while free, with respect for fundamental human rights and the principles of a fair trial.
