Truck drivers expect faster checks at Merdare with the new scanner: Everything depends on the Kosovo side

Truck drivers transporting goods from Serbia to Kosovo expect congestion at the Merdare crossing to decrease in the future if the scanner donated by the United States is put into full operation, but they point out to Kosovo Online that the best solution would be to allow the import of goods at all crossings.

“If the scanner starts working and if they allow the import of Serbian goods at all crossings, I think the congestion will be reduced,” said one truck driver we encountered at Merdare.

Drivers explain that delays at this crossing have lasted for hours since the import of Serbian goods was permitted, but they add that most of them expect these delays to be shortened after the scanner is put into use.

“I think the situation will improve, that everything will move faster. We drivers talk among ourselves, and we all think it will go faster with the scanner… We’ll see,” another truck driver said.

However, some remain cautious. One of his colleagues notes that, despite the new equipment, everything will still depend on how the Kosovo side operates.

“There should be less congestion, but in the end, everything depends on how they work,” he emphasized.
