The Union of Serbs in Austria, as the host of this year’s 27th European Basketball Championship of the Serbian Diaspora, organized a humanitarian gala evening in Vienna featuring a jersey auction. The funds raised will be donated to the humanitarian organization “Serbs for Serbs,” which will use the proceeds through its Vidovdan Campaign to support vulnerable Serbian families in Kosovo.

The event, celebrating a love for sports, competitive spirit, and humanitarian values, brought together young athletes and basketball legends in the Austrian capital.

This year, the tournament gathered 17 basketball teams from all over Europe—from Sweden to southern Italy, as well as from the Republic of Srpska and Serbia.

As part of the two-day tournament, a gala dinner was held with an auction of various items, which proved to be more than successful.

Adding a special charm were the sports legends who once thrilled fans on the court—Pero Antic, Vladimir Micov, Dusan Kecman, Luka Spasovski, Vladimir Kuzmanovic, and Milan Gurovic.

A jersey worn by the world’s best, Nikola Jokić, sold at auction for an impressive €4,000, while a combined Partizan and Red Star jersey was sold for €1,200.

The Union of Serbs in Austria decided to donate the funds to the humanitarian organization “Serbs for Serbs,” which, according to Stefan Koprivica, president of the organization’s Austrian branch, will use the money to assist vulnerable Serbian families in Kosovo through their Vidovdan Campaign.

Koprivica stated that the specific families to receive aid have not yet been determined, but the collected funds are expected to support between 15 and 20 of the most vulnerable Serbian families in Kosovo.
Founded in 2005, “Serbs for Serbs” has since raised over €10 million, supported more than 3,200 families, and helped over 15,000 children—relying exclusively on donations and volunteer work.
In addition, the Union of Serbs in Austria has launched the initiative “Every Serb – One Euro” to further support Serbian families in need, as well as cultural and religious institutions in Kosovo.
The current focus is on supporting the day center “Support Me – January 9th” in North Mitrovica, which provides care and assistance to children and youth with developmental disabilities.
