Vucevic: They are trying to break our backs, but we continue the fight for Kosovo and the survival of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija
Once again, they are trying to break our backs over Kosovo, but Serbia will continue its determined fight to preserve state, national, and people's interests, for the survival of Kosovo and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic stated today in Krusevac, where the central event commemorating Vidovdan is being held.
"We have every right to be in the imperial city of Krusevac today, marking one of the most important dates in the history of Serbia and the Serbian people. Vidovdan is a day when the past, present, and future intertwine. It is the cornerstone of our culture and national identity, a reminder of the key moments and trials we have faced as a people," Vucevic said in his address at the Monument to the Kosovo Heroes.
As he stated, the fateful June 28 is not just a date on the calendar but a symbolic moment of resilience, sacrifice, and all that is good in the Serbian people, a public confession of collective memory that warns and awakens, encourages and cheers, strengthens and teaches.
"Vidovdan is the day when we won, not lost. A day when we all remember the many martyrs who fell for the homeland, the nation, and the faith, before Kosovo, at Kosovo, and after Kosovo," the Prime Minister emphasized.
He recalled Prince Lazar, who, as he mentioned, decided in 1389 to fight, knowing all circumstances were against him. This decision embodies the spirit of Vidovdan as not submitting to the stronger, which, Vucevic added, "low souls imprisoned in chains of slavery cannot understand."
"The colossal battle is etched into our consciousness and reminds us of the price of freedom. Vidovdan is a pledge for the continuous fight for freedom. For centuries, Serbia has faced hardships and fought for freedom and independence, for the right to arrange our home ourselves, never giving up at any cost," Vucevic stated.
As he noted, every generation has its Vidovdan test and must ensure that the flame of freedom burns for future generations and that Serbia works and builds.
Vucevic added that the words of Woodrow Wilson about the justification of the Serbian people's struggle for freedom and the aspiration of Slavic peoples for recognition and the right to manage their own destiny were more relevant today than ever, given the events in the region and the world.
He pointed out that Serbia was now faced with new challenges and pressures, with the denial of political independence, military neutrality, and the disregard of international law.
"Vidovdan reminds us that we have faced great challenges, but that we have always emerged stronger. Our greatest victories have been achieved through a combination of the holy trinity of survival – wisdom, patience, and, if necessary, determined commitment," the Prime Minister observed.
Today in Krusevac, he said, we celebrate the memory of all the sacrifices embedded in the statehood of Serbia, so that children learn to preserve the values for which Serbs have been admired.
"And today, again, they are trying to break Serbia's back over Kosovo and Metohija. The Serbian people are once again suffering in Kosovo and Metohija. From this place, on Vidovdan, I declare that the Government of Serbia and President Aleksandar Vucic continue the determined fight to preserve state, national, and people's interests, for the survival of Kosovo and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Our strength lies in our ancestors, but above all in our descendants, in the people, in a united Serbia that must never be divided," Vucevic said.
"May the fate of the Kosovo heroes be the strength and power on which decisions are made and the future of Serbia is structured. Long live Serbia," Prime Minister Vucevic concluded.
He previously laid a wreath at the Monument to the Kosovo Heroes, together with the Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran, and Social Affairs, Nemanja Starovic.
The wreath was also laid by Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilovic.
