Aliaj: Kurti revealed the content of the letter to Trendafilova to appeal to voters
Political analyst Artan Aliaj believes that Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, by revealing the content of the letter he sent in September 2022 to President of the Specialist Chambers Ekaterina Trendafilova, in which he requests the release of the former KLA leaders while offering guarantees from the security institutions, primarily wanted to appeal to a large number of voters.
“Many people have for years accused the government led by Mr. Kurti of not providing the necessary guarantees for the KLA leaders to be released on conditional liberty. Personally, I am glad to see that the government did indeed write that letter and that it was sent to the court,” Aliaj told Kosovo Online.
He believes that providing guarantees also conveyed other messages.
“The fact is that the court has long since lost its case and many proceedings there resemble politics more than justice. So, I think that, for me personally, it was good to see,” Aliaj said.
However, he also believes that Kurti’s move is tied to the election campaign.
“I think Mr. Kurti was simply trying to appeal to the large number of voters he thinks he can convince. And some other decisions made by the government, as well as the publication of this letter, may be directly connected to the election campaign,” Aliaj concluded.
