Deputy Director of Kosovo Police for the Northern Region, Veton Elshani, stated to Kosovo Online that the Kosovo police detained a total of 11 individuals for driving into North Mitrovica with vehicles displaying Kosovo flags and emblems, thereby provoking the citizens.

"Throughout the day, due to Independence Day celebrations, we had instances where we turned people back to the southern part of Mitrovica for displaying Kosovo flags or emblems on their vehicles. Around 3 PM, three cars evaded the police and crossed into the northern part of Mitrovica. We stopped one of the cars and requested documents, but the occupants refused to hand over their IDs to the police, so they were taken to the Mitrovica North police station. All four young men from the car are minors, so we are now waiting for their parents to come and take the car since they do not have driving licenses. Subsequently, we stopped another car with seven individuals inside, making a total of 11 detained on this occasion," Elshani explained.

When asked if the police reacted following a report from citizens, Elshani mentioned that no one had reported anything.

"We saw the cars on cameras, and police officers on the street also spotted them, which led to their stopping. They will most likely be released. Throughout the day, we return people who attempt to provoke with flags or emblems. However, these three vehicles managed to slip through, which is why they were stopped. I urge people to call the police if they notice new cases of provocation and not to take the law into their own hands," Elshani concluded.
