Political analyst Lulzim Farizi from Skopje stated that diaspora votes in the upcoming June 7 elections will once again go to Albin Kurti and his Self-Determination Movement, adding that the fact that former Kosovo president Vjosa Osmani has rejoined the Democratic League of Kosovo will not influence the diaspora to change its opinion.

Farizi told Kosovo Online that there are two problematic elements in Kosovo’s Constitution - the election of the President of Kosovo and the election of the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, which, according to the analyst, means that Kosovo will always face political turbulence.

He assessed that Osmani’s influence in the previous period was limited, while over the past two years the policies of Kurti and Osmani have not been aligned, especially regarding Kosovo’s foreign policy.

“Osmani tried in some way to oppose him, especially through diplomatic channels, by appearing in photos alongside Trump, and that sent a message to the diaspora that she is the most influential person in the country who wants to build an alliance with the United States. However, given that over the past ten years the diaspora has traditionally voted for Kurti rather than for other ideologies, I think the diaspora would vote for Osmani only minimally, except for supporters of the Democratic League operating in Europe,” Farizi said.

He stressed that Kurti’s influence among the diaspora is significant and that the diaspora, as he says, supports his ideology.

“The diaspora will not greatly influence Vjosa Osmani’s result, because predominantly 90 percent of the diaspora will vote for Kurti. He is the most influential and best organized within the diaspora, which supports his ideology, his political party and him as a leader who is unrivaled at this moment,” Farizi stated.
