Assistant professor at the University of Agder Abit Hoxha told Kosovo Online that the diaspora votes previously received by Vjosa Osmani will not automatically transfer to her in the upcoming June 7 elections.

“I do not think that the votes Vjosa Osmani previously received from the diaspora in elections will automatically transfer to her this time as well, because of the structural support that Self-Determination has among its voters and through its structural support network in Europe and in Kosovo,” Hoxha stated.

As he pointed out, the election campaign in Kosovo is a blame game between political parties over who has done less, rather than who will do more.

“I do not expect the campaign to change compared to previous campaigns. It is a blame game fueled by a lot of inflammatory content and inflammatory accusations, rather than based on projects, documents and plans for the future,” Hoxha added.

In his opinion, the result of the June 7 elections will not be different from the December elections. As he added, even if Albin Kurti and Self-Determination win a better result in the elections than previously, namely more than 51 percent, cooperation will still be necessary.

“I think we will get the same results. Even if Kurti gets, say, 55 percent, what can he do with those 55 percent that he could not do with 51 percent? Even if you get 55 percent, you still have to cooperate. Kosovo was designed as a civic state based on political consensus, it was not designed to have one-party institutions. So Kurti will not be able to do anything even with 55 or 60 percent, because Kosovo’s institutions require cooperation with other political parties. For any of the decisions awaiting Kurti, for example the Community of Serb Municipalities or the dialogue or other decisions, a broader decision-making base will be necessary, not just decision-making by a single political party. They need the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and probably Serbian political parties as well,” Hoxha concluded.
