Kryeziu: CEC’s decision a political maneuver, not in line with statesmanship
Former Deputy President of the Constitutional Court Kadri Kryeziu assessed that the CEC’s refusal to certify the Serb List for participation in the local elections on October 12 is a political maneuver that produces no legal consequences, since, most likely, once again the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) and the Supreme Court will order certification.
Kryeziu stated that the United States is the guarantor of Kosovo’s freedom and independence, and therefore the suggestions coming from Washington must be taken very seriously.
“This is the responsibility of the entire political spectrum in Kosovo. After being in power for four years—and continuing, de facto, to remain in power—Self-Determination had all the resources and opportunities at its disposal to address the issues raised today through the appropriate legal channels,” he said.
Kryeziu added that issues endangering national security must be resolved within the framework of the relevant institutions.
“The CEC, as a technical body, is not a forum nor a competent authority to resolve them. What happened today in the CEC is identical to the situation when certification of the Serb List was rejected for the last general elections. This is a political maneuver that produces no legal consequences because, most likely, once again ECAP and the
Supreme Court will order certification of the Serb List,” he said.
According to him, what worries him is the lack of courage to take a stand.
“Two votes against Self-Determination are not enough to reject certification. Seven abstentions reveal a sophisticated cunning where other parties, in fact, support Self-Determination by blocking certification so they can look good in front of voters. And at the same time, before the U.S. Embassy, they want to appear innocent, excusing themselves by saying that Self-Determination caught them in the act,” Kryeziu wrote on Facebook.
“Everything that happened today is not statesmanlike behavior. It is not good,” Kryeziu concluded.
