Dusan Radakovic from the NGO “Democracy in Action” assesses that the new prime minister-designate is likely to be Albin Kurti, as he will have a sufficient majority of 67 or 68 MPs with the support of non-Serb minority parties.

According to the votes counted so far, as he notes, Kurti has won around 50 percent, while results from the diaspora and votes cast by persons with special needs are still pending.

“It is estimated that he will have between 56 and 57 MPs, depending on the final allocation of seats. At this moment, the Serb List has nine mandates, while one mandate belongs to the party of Nenad Rasic. When it comes to the Serb List, the scenario from February worries me. Whether that was in accordance with the law or not is for judicial institutions to determine, but if the February plan is replicated, the deputy speaker of the Assembly will come from the ranks of Nenad Rasic’s party, and that party will be awarded the Ministry for Returns in the future government,” Radakovic told Kosovo Online.

Our interlocutor also points out that the term of the President of Kosovo will soon expire and that a new institutional crisis is very likely, because 67–68 MPs are not sufficient to elect a president, as a two-thirds majority is required.

“We have a situation in which another 14 or 15 MPs will be needed. In that case, the LDK, the PDK, or the Serb List would have to support the election of the President of Kosovo, which is very difficult. Because of this, there is a strong possibility that in April we could have new, third, parliamentary elections within a period of less than a year and a half,” Radakovic concluded.
