Abazovic: My agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church is a model for Kosovo

Dritan Abazović

The Prime Minister of Montenegro in his technical mandate, Dritan Abazovic, told RTK this evening that an agreement was reached between the government headed by him and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, a model that Kosovo can implement "without problems".

Abazovic rejected assessments that it was the agreement with the SOC that cost him the prime minister's position, stating that he stands by that agreement, and that "Milo Djukanovic left, not him", as well as that "things cannot move, if you do not leave your own comfort zone".

In this sense, he stated that his agreement with the SOC could be a model that Kosovo could implement without problems.

"I'm not saying in the same way, but Kosovo can also have that agreement with the Orthodox Church as a model," said Abazovic and stated that "when the people relax, it may be only useful."

He also pointed out that Montenegro was very interested in an international agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, because it would be helpful for the region as well.

He stated that the European plan was a good basis for the final agreement between Serbia and Kosovo.

He repeated that Montenegro was ready to serve as a "logistic place" for a meeting like the one in Ohrid.

"The Brussels agreement is a good basis for the future," said Abazovic and added that if Montenegro could be part of the guarantee for overcoming the problem, then it could be done.

"But there are barriers in the minds of politicians, which must be further demolished. We've been talking about the same things for twenty years. I believe that the guarantees should come from an international factor and be signed further," said Abazovic.

He also stated that if the issue with Aleksandar Vucic is not resolved, it will take a long time.

"Regardless of what I think, Vucic has great political stability in Serbia and whoever comes after him it will be very difficult, for some historical issues in a political sense," he said and added that waiting does not suit either side.

For Podgorica, the issue of demarcation is over

Abazovic said that the issue of the demarcation of Kosovo and Montenegro was closed for Podgorica, but added that if there were problems, "things can be fixed".

He added that during the meetings he had during his three-day visit to Kosovo, the issue of demarcation was not discussed at all.

"For us, it's a done deal," said Abazovic.

Regarding the upcoming elections in Montenegro, he said that one should not exaggerate political ambitions.

"What was our platform has been realized. My party did not get many seats in the parliament, but now more than 90 percent of the parties in Montenegro have accepted the agenda of the URA party".
