Ambassador Shuang: China will never allow what happened to Serbia in 1999 to occur again
Deputy Chief of Mission of China to the UN, Ambassador Geng Shuang, said today in the UN Security Council, after a session commemorating the 25th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the FR Yugoslavia was prevented, that China would never allow a repetition of what had happened to Serbia in 1999.
Shuang said that China had supported holding the session, expressing regret that some members had had a different opinion.
He, recalling that 25 years ago NATO attacked the FRY without the approval of the UN Security Council, pointed out that he was disappointed with the outcome of the vote on the agenda and the refusal to discuss it.
"We are disappointed with the outcome of the vote... Before we part, I must say that the NATO bombing also caused a very painful moment that the Chinese people will never forget... On May 7, NATO led by the United States fired multiple laser-guided missiles and bombed the Chinese Embassy in the FRY, which led to the death of three Chinese journalists and injuries to more than 20 Chinese diplomatic representatives," Shuang said.
It was, he underlined, a flagrant violation of Chinese sovereignty and a serious violation of the feelings of the Chinese people, as well as a huge violation of international law.
"The people of China do not support hatred, but we will never forget history. We do not support responding to violence with violence, but we will never allow this to happen again," the Chinese Ambassador warned.
He pointed out that it had been a violation of Chinese sovereignty and an attack on the feelings of the Chinese people, and the bombing of the FRY had been a clear violation of international law.
