The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo has expressed deep concern over verbal attacks by Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti against journalists from Klan Kosova television, as well as against analysts and judicial institutions, stating that such rhetoric undermines freedom of expression and encourages violence.

"On a day when the citizens of Kosovo demonstrated democracy in action, such attacks are not only an assault on freedom of expression but they are also a direct incitement to violence against the targeted media, endangering dozens of journalists and hundreds of employees in this organization," the American Chamber of Commerce stated, as reported by Reporteri.

The Chamber also points out that continued verbal attacks on businesses, certain media outlets, analysts, prosecutors, and other law enforcement institutions violate fundamental freedoms, which Kosovo’s society and its international partners have been working for years to promote.

"Furthermore, attacks on independent judicial institutions not only violate the principle of separation of powers but also contradict the fundamental principle of the rule of law, which prohibits arbitrary exercise of power. These actions send the worst possible message to citizens, local businesses, and foreign investors, increasing legal uncertainty in Kosovo," the statement read.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo firmly believes that freedom of expression must be respected, the independence of all institutions must be guaranteed, and the executive branch must collaborate with all branches of government and non-governmental institutions that play a crucial role in strengthening democracy and promoting economic development in Kosovo.

As they emphasize, Kosovo must remain a place where its citizens want to live and where private businesses can thrive without fear of arbitrary government actions.
