Antonijevic: Errors in the Serbian language on official Kosovo portals are not a technical issue
Serbia’s Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijevic, stated—commenting on a statement by the NGO Aktiv highlighting the improper use of the Serbian language in an application of the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs—that when Serbian appears with numerous errors on official Kosovo portals, this is not merely a technical problem but a matter of respect for the linguistic rights of the community for whom the language is intended.
Antonijevic recalled that on most official portals of Kosovo institutions the Serbian language appears with numerous mistakes.
“The right to use one’s language is not a mere formality. When Serbian appears on official portals with numerous errors, this is not only a technical issue but a question of respecting the linguistic rights of the community for whom that language is intended,” Antonijevic wrote.
He added that the NGO Aktiv has been pointing out this long-standing practice of Kosovo institutions for years.
In its statement, NGO Aktiv emphasized that, given the numerous previous warnings, the language errors cannot be considered a technical problem and called on the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs to align the Serbian-language translation in the application, as well as all publications, with the Law on the Use of Languages.
